19 of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial championship for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a difficult season, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in particular - resulted in him falling of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is his first trophy since the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt after that period of the previous year.

The win also signifies he has won 21 titles at 21 distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

His defensive approach and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had caused some to wonder if his capacity to perform at the highest level was finished.

But the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and play aggressively, backed up by an improved serving game.

He came back from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players traded breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden tour victory, took control to force a decider.

Moutet defended four early-game break points in a close final set before the champion secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned the win with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
